CHOICES IN HEALTH PROMOTION |
|
Choices in Health Promotion is a customized health promotion program that addresses a variety of individual and work environmental risks. This program recognizes that each business is unique. Concerns of one business are not necessarily the same as another business. Therefore, our team designs a customized program based on a needs assessment conducted by our staff. Choices in Health Promotion can include any combination of the following program modules:
Active Lifestyle motivates employees to adapt or enhance an active lifestyle. This module helps employees identify steps to incorporate physical activity into their daily routine and encourages regular moderate exercise as a lifestyle. Alcohol, Drugs, & Health increases employee knowledge of alcohol and its effects. This module reinforces alcohol and drug abuse awareness, provides healthy options and choices and encourages self-reflection of personal use. Family Connection helps employees who are parents make positive changes in their children's lives that can protect them from the pressures of alcohol and drug use. Parents learn how to deal with the demands of their job and stress and how to develop better parenting skills. Healthy Eating encourages employees to reduce the intake of dietary fat and overall calories and to increase the intake of fruits and vegetables. Its central purpose is to manage weight and improve nutrition, thereby helping to prevent major diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular disease. Managing Stress evaluates employees' stress buffering skills and coping styles. Participants are encouraged to generate strategies for evaluating stress events to in order to identify stronger ways of coping and encourage awareness of healthy options for dealing with stress. Safety & Moderation identifies the dangers associated with unhealthy stress reactions and heightens awareness of workplace safety concerns. This module encourages employees to focus on solutions to the issues and engages the group in promoting this orientation. Time & Presence helps employees understand the problem of time compression and its impact on our lives. Through the use of a personal assessment, participants identify their strengths and areas of growth potential for their perception of time and spiritual beliefs. Tobacco Use is designed to help employees quit smoking or use of other tobacco products. The central purpose of this program is to reduce tobacco use in the workforce, thereby preventing cancer and other major diseases. Parts of the customized program draws upon health promotion elements developed by Dr. Royer Cook and colleagues at ISA Associates, as well as elements of Team Awareness (developed by Dr. Joel Bennett and colleagues at The Institute of Behavioral Research, Texas Christian University).
